Genius guest singers interviews:
John Wetton interview:
-How did you hear about Genius Rock Opera? How were you
involved in?
I received an invitation from Frontiers records to listen to the
rough takes of the basic songs, and if I liked them, and thought there
would be potential, to reply, and make arrangements to sing the part of Mc King Chaos.
-What's your opinion on the storyconcept idea?
I like the futuristic aspect, but I what attracted me most to the part
of King Mc Chaos was the human , emotional element ("Father").
-Were you confortable with the character and lyrics parts you were
assigned to?
Yes.I was most comfortable with King Mc Chaos, because of what I explained
earlier, and as I have a young son,I could identify with the character.
-Did you come up with some personal melodies or did you follow
strictly the melodies you received from the composer? What's your opinion on the
lyrics and melodies?
I always change lyrics and melodies slightly, whatever I am singing, and this
time there were phrases that did not sing as well as I would have liked,so I altered them
a little, but I tried to keep the original intention of the author very clear, and keep the
overall message.
Melodies and lyrics are very good, iIt is very difficult to write a
"musical".
It is not a collection of pop/rock tunes,it is a story.
-Where did you
record your vocals? Who produced it?
I recorded my vocals at my own studio, called "Nomansland" in the New
Forest, southern England.I produced it with engineer,my friend
"The Reverend" Rob Aubrey (IQ,Jadis,John Wetton live and recorded).
-Are you happy with the result of
your recording? What's your opinion on the overal project and music?
Yes, I am happy with my performance, but I have not yet heard the
final mix,and I'm looking forward to that.
-Are you willing to partecipate also in the next 2 episodes
if you character will require it?
Yes, I would be delighted,if and when I am asked and invited.
Steve Walsh interview:
-Hello!, How did you hear about Genius Rock Opera? How were
you involved in?
Hello, Serafino Pergino at Frontiers Records asked me to participate in the recording
-Were you confortable with the
character and lyrics parts you were assigned to?
I felt very comfortable in character.
-Are you willing to partecipate also in the next 2 episodes
if you character will require it?
I would love to be a part of the future of this project.
-Did you come up with some personal melodies or did you
follow strictly the melodies you received from the composer?
I appreciated the freedom I was given by Daniele, but the melodic ideas were all his.
-Where did you record your vocals? Who produced it?
I recorded my vocals here at my home. David Manion and I produced them together.
-Are you happy with the result of your recording?
It was a learning opportunity for both of us, and we were
happy with the results. Thanks to
all!
Oliver Hartmann interview:
-How did you hear about Genius Rock Opera? How were you
involved in?
Daniele Liverani contacted me in the end of last year to participate on his project and
sent me the preproduction of Genius. He told me which other singers were involved and it
all sounded very interesting. So I agreed.
-What's your opinion on the storyconcept idea?
I like the futuristic concept and the more progressive style of music reminding me
of early works from Dream Theater. So it´s different to what I did before, for
example in Tobias Sammet´s „Avantasia“.
-Were you confortable with the character and lyrics parts you
were assigned to?
I knew that Steve Walsh, who is absolutely one of my favourite singers, was singing the
character of Wild Tribe . I felt good to be his consultant, haha ;-)
-Did you come up with some personal melodies or did you
follow strictly the melodies you received from the composer? What's your opinion on
the lyrics and melodies?
I like both lyrics and melodies very much. I just had to
change some little words and vocal lines to feel a little more comfortable singing it.
-Where did you record your vocals? Who produced it?
I recorded and produced my vocals in my own studio
at home in Germany.
-Are you happy with the result of your recording?
Yes, I am but it was very hard to sing the part of the Wild Tribe-consultant containing
some very high vocal lines. It´s a very fast track. I didn´t have time to take one
breath!!!
-What's your opinion on the overal project and music?
It was comfortable to work with Daniele Liverani and I really like the whole concept and
music of Genius. I think it´s great to have all these singers in one production. I hope
it will be successful.
-Are you willing to partecipate also in the next 2 episodes
if you character will require it?
Yes, absolutely. Except the consultant will have to face an early death in the beginning
of the second episode, haha!
Chris Boltendahl interview:
-How did you heard about Genius Rock Opera? How were you
involved in?
I WAS ASKED BY FRONTIERS TO PERFORM A
TRACK ON THIS ROCK OPERA, MY PART IS ONE SONG LEAD VOCALS AND ALL OPERA BACKGROUND VOCALS.
-What's your opinion on the storyconcept idea?
GREAT IDEA AND AN INTERSTING STORY.
STORY AND MUSIC ARE VERY CLOSE TOGETHER AND
ARRANGED VERY COMPACTLY.
-Were you confortable with the character and lyrics parts you
were assigned to?
DANIELE CHOOSE A VERY GOOD PART FOR ME SO THAT I COULD SHOW MY AGRESSIVE VOCAL STYLE TO
THE LISTNERS.
-Did you come up with some personal melodies or did you
follow strictly the melodies you received from the composer?
NOBODY CAN GIVE ME VOCALS LINES AND FOR THAT I GAVE A LOT OF MY OWN ATTIDUE TO THE
MUSIC... HA HA HA.
FOR REAL : DANIELE SANG ME A GUIDE TO THE TAPE AND THAT WAS
VERY FUNNY!
-What's your opinion on the lyrics and melodies?
GREAT GREAT GREAT. A GENIUS HAS COMPOSED A OPERA ABOUT A GENIUS. THAT`S THE WAY !!!
-Where did you record your vocals? Who produced it?
WE RECORDED ALL THE VOCALS IN THE PRINCIPAL STUDIOS IN GERMANY. THERE HAVE ALSO RECORDED
GRAVE DIGGER, KREATOR, RAGE AND MANY MORE.
-Are you happy with the result of your recording?
WITH THE RECORDINGS : YES !!! BUT I DIDN`T LISTEN TO THE MIXED PARTS YET
-What's your opinion on the overal project and music?
I LIKE IT TO BE A PART OF A RECORD WITH MANY OTHER SINGERS.
-Are you willing to partecipate also in the next 2 episodes
if you character will require it?
DEFINITELY IF DANIELE IS INTERESTED TO WORK WITH ME AGAIN!
Philip Bynoe interview:
-How did you heard about Genius Rock Opera? How were you
involved in?
Mark Boals told me about it. I am the voice-over person
-What's your opinion on the storyconcept idea?
It reminds me of the Lord of the Rings, I can't wait for the next part.
-Were you confortable with the character and lyrics parts
you were assigned to?
Yes I had a great time recording the
storyline between songs.
-Where did you record your vocals? Who produced it?
I recorded here in California and Mark Boals produced my tracks.
-Are you happy with the result of your recording?
Very happy
-What's your opinion on the overal project and music?
It's very heavy rock it should provoke interest in the Goth community.
-Are you willing to partecipate also in the next 2 episodes
if you character will require it?
As long as Daniele wants to use me I'll be involved.
Lana
Lane interview:
-How
did you hear about Genius Rock Opera? How were you involved in?
We were approached by our friends at the Frontiers label who
distributes many of my albums in Italy.
They
thought I would be a nice addition to the project.
-What's your opinion on the storyconcept idea?
It seems like a good one, but I really have to hear the whole album
before I can say too much!
-Were you confortable with the character and lyrics
parts you were
assigned to?
Yes. The melodies and lyrics were good nothing strange or awkward!
-Did you come up with some personal melodies or did
you follow strictly the melodies you received from the composer?
I followed Daniele's melodies. They were very good, so there was no
need to change them.
-What's your opinion on the lyrics and melodies?
Very good.
-Where did you record your vocals? Who produced it?
My husband Erik Norlander recorded my vocals at Think Tank Media in Los
Angeles.
-Are you happy with the result of your recording?
Yes, it came out fine.
-What's your opinion on the overal project and music?
From what I have heard, it sounds very good, but of course I have to hear
the whole album in order to truly answer this question.
-Are you willing to partecipate also in the next 2
episodes if you
character will require it?
Yes.
Olaf
Senkbeil interview:
-How
have you heard about Genius Rock Opera? How were you involved in?
I had a call with Chris Bolthendal from Grave
Digger. He told me
about the project and that there are some choirs needed. So he offered
Thomas Hackmann and myself to sing the choir parts because we have been also
involved in the Blind Guardian stuff wich is produced also in a big maybe
bombastic way and I think Daniele wanted to have some choirs in that way.
-What's your opinion on the storyconcept idea?
Pretty cool
-Were you confortable with the choir lyrics parts you
were assigned?
Yes that has been all right.
-Did you come up with some personal melodies idea or
did you follow strictly the melodies you received from the composer?
Daniele has sent a message to Chris and we have been told which
parts could need a choir, but it was no strict order and we were free in
composing melodies.
-What's your opinion on the lyrics and melodies of the
choirs?
I can´t say much about the lyrics yet, cause I haven´t heard the
whole stuff. I think they are well done. The melodies - I hope they are well
done and the people are going to like them because we realy did our best.
-Where did you record your vocals? Who produced it?
The choirs have been recorded at Principal-Studios Münster in
germany where Chris also had sung his solopart. Chris and one of the guys of
the principal crew have been the producers (- good job-).
-Are you happy with the result of your recording?
I´m feeling fine with the choirs but the people have to decide if
they like our work. Hope Daniele does.
-how log did it take to complete the choir recording?
It took one day to listen to the stuff and to create thoose choirs.
-Are you willing to partecipate also in the next 2
episodes?
For shure I would be glad and prowd to be a part of this story
also
in chapter two or three (maybe both :)) because it´s a realy cool thing to
be one little part in a project that fits so many goooood and real famous
singers!
Mark
Boals interview:
-How
have you heard about Genius Rock Opera? How were you involved in?
I
got an message from Daniele, the guitarist and writer for the Genius
Project which detailed his ideas and then he sent me a demo, which sounded
great!
-What's
your opinion on the storyconcept idea?
I
think it’s a very cool idea, I’ve always liked sci-fi and fantasy
stories.
-Were
you confortable with the character and lyrics parts you were assigned to?
Yes,
of course! The melodies were challenging and very musical.
-Did
you come up with some personal melodies or did you follow strictly the
melodies you received from the composer?
I
mainly followed the written parts, but I embellished a little, of course.
-What's
your opinion on the lyrics and melodies?
Very
Cool!
Where
did you record your vocals? Who produced it?
I
Recorded and produced myself, as I always do!
-Are
you happy with the result of your recording?
Very
happy! I just thought the mix could have been a little tighter.
-What's
your opinion on the overal project and music?
As
I said before, the music is cool, the singers are cool, and my only beef
is the mix, but it is a minor point. Overall, it is a very good album!
-Are
you willing to partecipate also in the next 2 episodes if you character
will require it?
Yes,
of course.
Any
comment?
I
think it would be really great to perform it LIVE!
Cheers
to all my fellow cast members on a job well done, and kudos to Daniele for
writing this monumental work!
Midnight interview:
-What's your opinion about
the storyconcept idea?
I really love the concept, it apealed to me rite away. I think it is very creative and well thought out.
-Were you confortable with the character and lyrics parts you were assigned
yes i was.I tend to be dramatic as a performer anyway and this was someting easy for me to play
a charecter, and the fact that i was the judge was very cool!
-Did you come up with some personal melodies or did you follow strictly the
melodies you received from the composer?
A little of both, I think, Daniele gave me total freedom but i love his ideas also.
-What's your opinion on the lyrics and melodies?
I think they were verywell done. You can tell alot of work went into it.
-Are you happy with the result of your recording?
Yes but next time i would rather be in the studio in italy. I did my part in a small studio in
florida and i would have liked to hear it come togeather.
-What's your opinion on the overal project and music?
Awesome!
-Are you willing to partecipate also in the next 2 episodes if you character
will require it?
Absolutely i had a lot of fun doing it!
-Any comment?
if you venture into the dreamworld, beware of me! I'll find you.I see all I'am Maindream!
